Khor Virap-Noravank-Areni-Tatev

Description

“Khor Virap”, translates as “deep dungeon”, offers an amazing view of Armenia’s defining symboll- the Biblical Mount Ararat. For decades it served as a royal prison, it was this very prison in which they kept Gregory the Illuminator, the first Armenian Catholicos, for a whole 13 years.

The next stop of this tour is medieval monastery of Noravank, unique in its construction, since the church of Holy Mother of God is the only 2-storied monastery in Armenia. Next stop is the town of Areni, where you will be given the opportunity to taste and even purchase Armenia’s renowned Areni wine. The last stop is near Tatev monastery – spiritual center that once had scientific and political importance.Nowadays, Tatev is also famous for its ropeway, also called the Wings of Tatev, that offers a breath-taking view of armenian wild beauty.
